I saw "Year One" yesterday. I happened to think that it was worth every dollar that I paid to watch it. I got in for free. The movie wasn't awful - but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Unless you were the world's biggest Arrested Development fan, because Michael Cera and David Cross are the only two people in the movie who made me laugh, even for a bit.
I used to love Jack Black. For a time there, it looked like he couldn't miss. Tenacious D was brilliant, and he was the crazy hilarious record store guy in High Fidelity, and then he was rocking out with a bunch of kids in School of Rock, or being the loser brother in Orange County. All hilarious and awesome.
Then there was Nacho Libre, and this may have been a turning point. I loved the movie but most hate it and find it to be boring and tiresome. Maybe too silly. But really, it's just Jack Black being Jack Black. And it's been that way in every shitty movie he's put out since.
And I guess the point is, don't live your life like Jack Black's career. Even if you do something and it's really, really awesome at first. It gets tiresome after awhile. It's like that uncle you have who tells the same joke at every family gathering. You might have laughed your ass off the first time, but by the 30th time you hear it it just elicits a groan.
I constantly try to evolve and be a better person but I don't always succeed. But at least I'm trying.
I wish I had a more salient point to end this with, but I don't.
So here's my weekly fitness update:
Miles run: 18.5; couldn't run on Saturday because it rained fairly hard all damn day. I think I needed the rest, anyway.
I also managed to run my first 10k yesterday, which was difficult and rewarding. I finished with a long, fast sprint and I legitimately thought I was going to throw up all over my driveway when I stopped. I had to sit down on the concrete for a solid five minutes before I got up and moved indoors. This was a good feeling.
Weight lost: -1.6 pounds
Finally down below where I was last summer, which officially makes me at my lowest weight since 2003. Gotta keep on truckin'.
(Also - Michael Cera is heading down the same path as Jack Black but I still find him hilarious)
